beach near your La Jolla homeLa Jolla residents enjoy beautiful weather and warm nights this time of year, making it THE place for moonlit walks on the beach. Guided tours are provided by the Birch Aquarium, alongside the 1,090 foot Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, which is a special treat if you live in La Jolla, as this area is usually closed. A favorite spot for scientists and students, the Pier is a great place to collect local marine life and test oceanographic instruments. On your guided tour, you can learn the history behind the Pier as well as explore local wildlife near your La Jolla home.

A hands-on experience, you will learn and experiment with all types of sea life, from collecting plankton to capturing glowing microorganisms. Tours are available for adults and children over nine who attend with an adult. To reserve your space at the event (required), please call 858.534.7336 or visit the Birch Aquarium website for details. The evening walks will be held on July 2nd and 3rd and August 1st and 2nd, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The next series will take place on August 30th and 31st, and September 29th and 30th, although those will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Members can attend for $22 and non-members are $25.
