San Diego International Triathlon June 24, 2012
The San Diego International Triathlon, a yearly event which raises funds for Father Joe’s Village is scheduled for Sunday, June 24th. Registration sold out in record time, however, if you are a die-hard racer and still want to be a part of this fabulous event, there is hope!
Athletes wanting to register have one last chance to be a part of the San Diego International Triathlon by registering in person at Nytro Bike Shop, located at 940 S Coast Highway 101, Encinitas on Thursday, June 7th at 9 a.m. Please call 760.632.0006 for more details and plan to be first in line if you want a chance to race in this international event. Only 100 registrants will be accepted for this “Last Chance” opportunity!
The San Diego International Triathlon is a highly competitive race where professional athletes race alongside proficient amateurs in a race for the $10,000 prize. Consisting of two races, a 1,000-meter swim, 30K cycle, and 10K run or a Sprint Course made up of a 500-meter swim, 20K cycle, and 6-mile run, this renown event always draws a large crowd of sports minded participants and onlookers! Time chips are given and times are recorded meticulously allowing you the opportunity to compare your level easily.
The actual Triathlon race begins at 6:30 a.m. and times are collected until 11:45 a.m. at the Spanish Landing Park, in Downtown San Diego. Registration for individuals on the Sprint Course is $105 and the cost for the International Course is $130. Nearly 1,500 racers are expected to register, making this event, hosted by St. Vincent de Paul Village very popular.
This triathlon may only be one of the eight amazing events like it offered in San Diego, yet it is definitely a sight to behold. Whether you choose to race or cheer on the participants efforts at fundraising and exerting maximum effort, you will be impressed by the energy at this race.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to Father Joe’s Villages, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving, inspiring and changing lives. Father Joe’s provides homeless shelters, transitional living, and career education and support, along with serving children and families in need through their village approach. The St. Vincent de Paul Village resides on a 3.5-block campus in the East Village area of downtown San Diego and helps those in need by providing for over 40 percent of the homeless population in San Diego.
