Run Near Your San Diego Home This Thanksgiving
There is so much to do in San Diego for Thanksgiving and if you live in San Diego and enjoy walking or running, you may want to participate in one of the holiday running events going on Thursday morning, November 24th. Running and/or walking for a cause is a great way to spend your time off from school and work and whole families can participate in these invigorating races, regardless of experience. We’d like to highlight two of the Thanksgiving races scheduled for this Thanksgiving Day near your San Diego home.
Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5k Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. at Balboa Park and also finishes in Balboa Park. Everyone is welcome as wheelchairs, pets and baby strollers can all join the race and everyone is encouraged to get pledges. Corporate groups and teams are welcome. This annual event benefits St. Vincent de Paul Village, the largest homeless charity in San Diego. Enjoy a cool and energized Thanksgiving morning outdoors with friends and take home a fresh baked pie for your Thanksgiving dinner while benefiting the city’s homeless. Pies must be ordered by November 19th. For more information and to register, click here.
The Oceanside Turkey Trot is a family event not to be missed if you live nearby. Everyone is encouraged to wear a Thanksgiving costume, making for one of the funniest and most enjoyable Thanksgiving mornings. Be creative with pilgrim, turkey, carrot, Indian or other attire. Beginning at 7 a.m. Thanksgiving morning at the Oceanside Civic Center, adults and runners will enjoy the 5k. Later at 8:30 a.m., an open 5k run/walk begins and then beginning at 10 a.m. children from 12 to 4 will have an opportunity to participate in their age-range run/walks (from ¼ mile to 1 mile, depending on age). All of the run/walks finish on The Strand adjacent the Oceanside Pier. This race benefits Oceanside Schools and charities. For more information and to register, click here.
