Live in Del Mar and Cook Peruvian
Locals who live in Del Mar know Café Secret. It’s a great little place that serves delicious and exotic Peruvian food. If you’re an adventurous cook, you might have wondered how to recreate the recipes at home. On July 13th, the owners of Café Secret, Danielle and Bratzo Basagoitia opened the Secret Pantry. It’s right near Café Secret, at 1416 Camino Del Mar. Daring cooks who live in Del Mar will be able to make Peruvian food in their own kitchens.
You’ll be able to purchase the ingredients that make Peruvian food distinctive. Maca is one of these ingredients. It’s an herb grown at 13,000 to 15,000 feet elevation and used by the Inca. Kiwicha Amaranth is also available. It’s similar to quinoa. You can also get Una de Gato, thought to be an immune booster good for many illnesses. All that’s necessary for a new cooking adventure is so close to Del Mar homes.
If you’ve invited friends who live in Del Mar for a picnic, stop by Secret Pantry. They carry a number of their best-loved dishes to go. You can get Peruvian Tamales and Jamon del Pais, a specially prepared ham, and several other delicacies. For a unique sweet treat, try a new tropical fruit. Mango, guanabana, chirimoya, and several other fruits are available as frozen pulp. There’s also a great selection of Peruvian ice creams.
