La Jolla Neighborhoods: La Jolla Farms
Scenic Spot Features Fine Coastal Views
La Jolla is renowned for being one of the finest locations in the world in which to reside. This small city located along the coast in the northern portion of San Diego County has a bucolic charm, and yet it is conveniently close to the major metropolis of San Diego. Orange and Los Angeles County locations are within commuting distance via such high speed transportation routes as I-5. La Jolla is made up of a number of smaller neighborhoods such as La Jolla Farms.
La Jolla Farms comprises about 200 acres of the northern portion of the city adjacent to Torrey Pines State Park. This natural preserve was established 100 years ago to protect a scenic stretch of coastline that was home to the rarest sort of pine tree found in the state. The Torrey Pine grows only in a few select spots in this vicinity.
La Jolla Farms is bordered on one side by the University of California at San Diego and on the other side by the Pacific Ocean. La Jolla Farms originally had an equestrian emphasis. The lots are generous in proportions and many of the homes here have undergone extensive remodeling. A U shaped residence built by The Farms original developer is now owned by UCSD. It is used as the chancellor’s residence. Blacks Beach lies below the homes here. It is a very secluded beach with difficult access. Farms residents have their own key to a private access gate. Because it affords so much privacy, Blacks Beach is a clothing optional site. The surfing is rated as excellent.
