The former home of singer/actor Bing Crosby and famous horse jockey Billy Pear is for sale in La Jolla. The home is famous for hosting many parties with Hollywood’s old-school A-Listers. The 10,000 sq, ft. house, located at 6019 Avenida Cresta, sits on a double lot and has 6 bedrooms and 10 baths. There is a sweeping Pacific Ocean view from most of the bedrooms. The home also features a home theater, a wine cellar and 5 courtyards. The property last sold in 2002 for $3.5 Million according to the San Diego County Property Assessor. Since that time, it has seen extensive remodeling and modernization, and more than doubled in size.
The home was designed by architect Tom Shepherd, and is designed after the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Italy. It is located in the Lower Hermosa part of La Jolla and receives a tax break for being a historic property. The home was originally built in the 1920s, when the architect was experimenting with various styles. Shepherd travelled extensively throughout Japan and Europe and was greatly influenced by his discoveries. The home has been owned by several celebrities in its unique history, including Burl Ives, Bing Crosby and Billy Pearson.
