Get Ready for School if You Live in Coronado
Young children who live in Coronado are getting an extra opportunity this year. Coronado Unified is determined to give students a better start in school by offering a new transitional kindergarten for 2012 and 2013. Students who will turn five years old between Nov. 2 and Dec. 2, can now attend school and gain access to regular study, along with enriched activities in the computer and science lab and the arts. Classes will only be offered in the mornings this fall, but the spring semester will adapt children to a longer schedule. Silver Strand and the Early Childhood Development Center will be offering this program and you can get more details if you have a home in Coronado by calling 619.522.8900. Kindergarten assessments for children with earlier birth dates will be conducted August 15th through 17th.
All students will begin school on Thursday, August 23rd and school class lists are being mailed out on August 20th. Prior to school starting however, newcomers are invited to learn a little about Coronado School District at the Back To School New Family Night on Tuesday, August 21st, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Coronado Middle School. Childcare will be provided and students are welcome to join in, too. Parents will learn about the Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF), Islander Sports Foundation (ISF), Military Support Services, Parks and Recreation, Student and Family Enrichment (SAFE), and Parent Teacher Organizations, along with meeting other families who live in Coronado.
