Del Mar Home to Surfing Canines
Where in San Diego can you see canine surfing? Del Mar, that’s where! That’s right, coming up on Sunday, September 9th, you can witness the 7th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon near your Del Mar home! This amazing event is sure to entertain at Del Mar Dog Beach and also supports local orphaned animals and the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe. Whether your dog is a sharp surfer or prefers to watch, or just enter the costume contest, this is THE place to be for all canines and their families who live in Del Mar.
Pets and owners alike can participate separately or together in the 20 minute heats based on the dogs size class. All animals will be judged on their ability to ride the waves, stay on their boards, and have fun! Prizes will be given to the Top Dogs.
Many other fun activities will occur that day to help in the fundraising efforts. Humans can participate in DOO THE DAH, a two-legged surf contest, as singles or in a team. Pledges are set based on the amount of waves rode in 30 minutes, and funds will be generated accordingly. A Beach Bum, Bikini Babe Canine Costume Contest will steal the hearts of onlookers and a Dog Agility course and Interactive Vendor Booths will provide plenty of fun, as well. The day starts at 8 a.m. and the surfing dogs begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Check the schedule to find out more online from the Surf Dog Surf-a-thon.
