Introducing Mission Beach

San Diego’s Mission Beach is a lively ocean front community sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay, that attracts beach-goers year round, not just during the always busy summer months. Located on a sand bar approximately two miles long, Mission Beach is divided into both North Mission and South Mission. South Mission is a peninsula, surrounded by water. There are many ocean and bay front properties here, filled with full time residents and summer time vacation renters.

Mission Beach has two miles of ocean front property and opportunities to be entertained, with plenty of beach amenities located here to please both the local full time residents and attract the numerous summer vacationers who frolic on and around Mission Beach.

Some of these amenities include a year round lifeguard, plenty of grills and fire pits for barbecuing, picnic tables for dining and picnics, and plenty of parking near the Belmont Park roller coaster. Perhaps more importantly, the beach also has plenty of clean showers and toilets for the use of swimmers and surfers, giving you plenty of opportunities to wash the saltwater off your skin and visit one of the many shops.

Walk, Run, Or Jog On The Boardwalk

While there are plenty of things to see and do, and tons of chances for people watching at Mission Beach, the ocean front boardwalk is also extremely popular for people getting outdoor exercise with an ocean breeze to cool them down. You will also see people riding their bicycles or roller blading down the boardwalk, so don’t forget to bring along your roller skates.

If you are interested in surfing or swimming, surfers and swimmers tend to gravitate on the south end of Mission Beach. And don’t worry, there are plenty of opportunities for recreational activity in Mission Beach. Another popular option includes the volleyball courts at Cohasset Court, where volleyball players practice all year.

Don’t Forget to Ride the Roller Coaster

There are many possibilities for entertainment, relaxation and recreation in Mission Beach, but one of the most popular attractions is the landmark Belmont Park rollercoaster in the very center of Mission Beach. This thrilling roller coaster is located near the lifeguard station in the very heart of Mission Beach. If you want to experience ocean views from the top of a roller coaster, Mission Beach is definitely the place to visit.

There are also numerous shops and fine dining near the roller coaster, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit this fabulous oceanfront destination.

The beach near the Belmont Park roller coaster is a bit narrower and so the crowds of people on this end of the beach can be a bit thicker, but this is the best spot to park for the beach as there are two big parking lots located near here.

How To Visit?

To get to Mission Beach, just take the 5 Freeway and exit on Grand Avenue. From there, you can head west to Mission Boulevard and turn south. Once you are near the famous Belmont Park roller coaster, you can look for parking in one of the two lots.
