About Nine-Ten La Jolla

This busy restaurant in La Jolla is a favorite for locals, but is also popular among the foodie set passing through town. It’s a fairly simple menu with a lot of organic food and new twists on old favorites. Nine-Ten has a plentiful selection of meat, all brought in from local ranches, but there’s also light picks like salmon and other seafood. Nine-Ten also prides itself on local craft beers from microbreweries in California, making it a great stop for beer lovers who want to taste what the state has to offer.

What to Order

One of the favorite appetizers at Nine-Ten is grilled octopus, which is lightly seasoned and has a dry rub that makes it taste unlike any other you’ve had. This is what we mean by taking items you’ve likely seen on restaurant menus before and reinventing them so they stand out. There’s also a salad with olives, arugula, cherry tomatoes and a light aioli for a kick of garlic.The scallops are fresh daily and served in a light sauce.
When it comes to what’s for dinner at Nine-Ten, nearly every entree has major rave reviews on multiple websites. The stuffed rabbit is a favorite and stuffed with spinach, cheese with a rich sauce, pearl onions and mushrooms. On the lighter end of the spectrum, there’s salmon served with asparagus, squash and oyster mushrooms, all served in a green fava puree. The puree is healthy, but tastes deliciously savory and makes a great addition to the various vegetables. The salmon boasts a crispy skin that adds to the fresh flavor salmon. All of the food at Nine-Ten is exceptionally fresh and much of it comes from local sources.
For the dinner entree, scallops are served over red quinoa with a lemon sauce that has a slight fluff to it. This isn’t your typical creamy or thin sauce, but has a frothy consistency that allows the quinoa grains to absorb it with ease. The lamb dish is a winner for meat lovers and rich. It’s served with white asparagus, fava beans and a nettle puree which blends with the hearty flavor of the lamb.
The extensive wine menu at Nine-Ten is along the lines of its beer menu, with many picks from smaller vineyards. There’s a mix of domestic and import wines, and they are at a variety of price points. On Wednesdays, all bottles of wine are half off and that’s during happy hour too. Happy hours also has discounted appetizers for those who want to stop by for a catch-up session in the middle of a rambunctious work week.

How Much?

Prices at Nine-Ten range from $22 and up for most entrees. It is an upscale restaurant, but one that delivers in terms of flavor and the quality of food they serve. You won’t find sauces and ingredients purchased from a restaurant supplier at this place. Nine-Ten is committed to creating an exceptional dining experience for regulars and out-of-towners who are staying at the hotel.
