About Truluck’s
Nearly everyone has something fantastic to say after dining at Truluck’s. This is a romantic, high end restaurant that’s eager to serve patrons with impeccable service and high quality food that will be talked about long after you pay the check. Truluck’s is located in University City and open for dinner only, every night of the week. Because it is an upscale restaurant, reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekend nights when the place tends to get full. While it has a romantic feel, large groups celebrating a birthday or graduation are also welcomed. You’ll feel like it’s a special night out and ready to spend money because of the ambiance and service at Truluck’s.
What to Order
One thing patrons talk about on many review sites is the Caesar salad from Truluck’s. The bottomline is Truluck’s is a seafood restaurant, so why the big fuss over a salad? While it may be a basic salad, the homemade dress is light and refreshing. Large sheets of parmesean cheese are sprinkled on top and the big cuts of lettuce call for a knife and fork on behalf of the diner, thus Truluck’s dubbing it the “Knife and Fork Caesar Salad.” It’s a simple appetizer, but the flavor makes all of the difference and rest assured it isn’t the same caliber of Caesar salad you’ll find at a pub or chain restaurant.
During happy hour, you’re able to snag all of the bar menu at half off. This includes drinks and many of the appetizers on the menu. These include the crab cake and beef sliders, both of which are great for sharing with a group of friends. There’s a big patio at Truluck’s and happy hour runs nightly from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., so get there early to snag a spot on the patio, while enjoying half price goodies. The cocktail menu at this restaurant is amazing and has a nice variety of special drinks you won’t find at other establishments. The wine menu is bountiful, but we suggest living it up with some of the unique cocktails versus ordering a bottle of wine.
The salt and pepper calamari is a winner for an appetizer, as are the blue cheese potato chips, which have a light, tart flavor. For dinner there’s a king crab dinner available for $65 per person. The quality and quantity of food you get is exceptional for the price and this deal keeps patrons coming back for more. The miso sea bass and Viking sea scallops are also favorites and some boast among the best seafood in San Diego.
How Much?
Truluck’s can get expensive (think $20+ per entree), but the portions are very large. You can easily share a dish with a friend or have plenty of leftovers for the next day. The bar menu is slightly smaller, but still packs plenty of food, especially considering the price. Free parking is also available as long as you use your meal receipt as validation.
