Mission Beach Home to Over The Line Tourney

Mission Beach Community, News | 7th Jul 2012

OTL Near Your Mission Beach homeIt’s that time of year again if you have a Mission Beach home (or live nearby). Time for summer sports and the ultimate in beach fun – sand friendly softball! You can join in the excitement of the 59th Annual Over-the-Line Tournament at Fiesta Island on Mission Beach on the weekends of July 14th and 15th and July 21st and 22nd. A not quite so competitive sport, over-the-Line softball focuses less on rules (although there are a bunch!) and more about having lots of blast, near your Mission Beach home!

Each game is only 3-4 innings, unless there happens to be a tie. You’ll find that gloves are not used for fielding and only wooden bats are used in this beach friendly sport. Uniforms are not “team sanctioned” so there is lots of variety and flair to be found in that aspect of the sport, as well.

This year’s Annual World Championship OTL Tournament is sponsored by The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club and several tens of thousands of people will turn out for the dual weekend event. Games commence at 7:30 a.m. and last throughout the day until the evening. Both women and men of all ages play on three person teams on a total of 50 courts. Admission to the event is free, but please follow the rules regarding animals (including snakes), small children, bike use, and alcohol. Visit the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club website for more information.
