LIVE in Coronado – Dogs Surf to Support ASPCA!
Loews 7th Annual Coronado Bay Resort Dog Surfing Competition is right around the corner, on Saturday, June 16th. If you and your pup like to hang ten, it’s time to wax your boards and head to the beach! Venture to the surf near Dunes Park at Imperial Beach, for the best in photo and video opportunities as your canine competes in wave mastery! If you live in Coronado, this fundraiser is probably already on your calendar, but invite your friends and family down to join in the excitement. The 2012 surf competition raises funds for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), an organization which strives to prevent animal cruelty through volunteer efforts and events, and even allows you to donate your time online from the comfort of your Coronado home.
Dog competitors must arrive between 10 and 10:30 a.m. to practice with the Coronado Surfing Academy. 11 a.m. is the start of the first contest with heat one which includes small dogs, 40 pounds and under. Heat two featuring large dogs, over 40 pounds, follows next and then tandem surfing begins. To conclude the competition, an Ultimate Champion Round of the top dogs will be had and then the awards ceremony will commence between 1 and 2 p.m. Winner of the Ultimate Champion Round will be named the 2012 “poster dog” for Loews Hotels and receive a professional photo shoot and lunch. Parking is available beginning at 8 a.m. at the YMCA Camp Surf parking lot, located at 560 Silver Strand Boulevard, for a $10 donation and a complimentary beach shuttle from the lot to the competition will be available, too.
